Finding a New Pet in Okinawa

There are many ways to find a new family pet, even on Okinawa. Some families search newspapers (Japan Update) or online classifieds (Oki Yard Sales) for ads from breeders or for families looking to rehome their pet. Others simply walk into the pet store and choose from the puppies there that day.

No Vacuum Required!

Many people would love to own a dog, but are wary of the potential mess that a shedding dog will leave in their homes. If you avoid using your vacuum at all costs, you need a non-shedding (or a low-shedding) breed for your companion. Unfortunately there is no such thing as a dog that doesn’t shed at all.

Dog Dehydration

Dog dehydration is a very real threat in Okinawa and it can be a serious matter. Whether caused by illness, exposure to heat, or just a simple lack of fluid intake, dehydration must be addressed immediately and, left untreated, can cause multiple health problems including organ failure and death.
